WHOLE LOTTA LOVE – MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN ROMANTIC MARGARET RIVER
Why we celebrate marriage equality at Stay Margaret River
Plus 3 Romantic Margaret River Date Ideas!
I’ve been fortunate to live and work all round the world before settling in Margaret River. One of the best lessons I’ve learnt is that kindness and respect will lead to happiness, and judging people by their ancestry or sexuality won’t.
A few years ago, dear friends of mine – let’s call them John and Dave – got married in Brazil. They followed it up with a rocking reception in WA to celebrate with their Aussie mates, and it was a blast.
They looked dashing in their suits, the food and wine was awesome, great hospitality, but the only thing missing was the ceremony. It wouldn’t have been recognised, yet it’s something us heterosexuals take for granted – the warm fuzzy feeling of tying the knot and seeing our friends get hitched, plus all the legal protection of our assets.
I’m stoked that finally Australian law recognises their marriage. John and Dave now have the same legal rights as heterosexual couples do.
I’d like to put it on record that everyone is welcome here at Stay Margaret River – whether you’re gay, straight, lesbian or bisexual.
Margi Gras and the SSW Festival
There’s a new festival in Margaret River…. it’s called Margi Gras – geddit? It’s an inclusive Mardi Gras in Margaret River celebrating equality for everybody. Kudos to the team organising it!
Then on Valentine’s Day is the Pop Up Same Sex Marriage Wedding Festival, where same sex couples can tie the knot in one of two beautiful Margaret River locations.

Romantic Margaret River
Valentine’s Day is just days away – and its midweek this year. If you’re looking for a super-romantic date in the Margaret River, this is what we recommend…
1. A walk through Boranup Forest
It’s just you, me and thousands of majestic karri trees! Its an easy 20 minutes’ drive from Stay Margaret River, and you just need to park up and follow one of the walk paths. Some of these trees are over 60 metres tall. The forest was actually logged in the late 1800s and fortunately replanted, hence the trees are so uniform in height.
2. Fly along the coast and picnic at a secret beach
Exhilarating, romantic and utterly beautiful is how we’d describe a Scenic Helicopters heli picnic. Meet pilot Jackson from Scenic Helicopters at Margaret River airport and he’ll take you flying above our beautiful forest and coastline. Land on a secret beach and enjoy a private picnic and drinks. Surprise your partner with this special experience for extra romance points!
3. Sunset at the Wilyabrup Cliffs
We love taking the kids down to Surfers Point for sunset fish and chips. It’s absolute magic. But for a romantic date without the crowds go a little out of your way and seek out the magnificent Wilyabrup Cliffs. They’re dramatic and absolutely stunning in the late afternoon sun. If you’re feeling adventurous you could book an abseiling lesson.
Romantic Margaret River Accommodation
You’ll need somewhere with wonderfully soft sheets and a free minibar to call home after your romantic day out – book a Stay Margaret River accommodation deal, and be sure to book direct for the best deal.
